Salary scale: $16.00 to $18.00 per hour to start, dependent on experience. Room for growth, plus benefits and RRSP plan.

Job Purpose

The Accounting Clerk works in a team environment with others and participates in daily accounting processes to help the Manager of Accounting & HR ensure all full-cycle accounting tasks are completed accurately and within deadlines. The successful candidate will record routine transactions, reconcile accounts, prepare monthly adjusting entries, prepare financial reports and monitor account balances and transactions for accuracy.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Responsible for recording general ledger journal entries, accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions in a team environment;
  • Reconciling key general ledger accounts on a weekly and/or monthly basis;
  • Ensuring that internal controls and procedures are followed;
  • Ensuring the integrity, accuracy and completeness of the general ledger;
  • Prepare weekly/monthly accounting and financial reports under the direction and guidance of the accounting manager;
  • Assist with analysis of financial variances;
  • Assist with preparation of the annual financial statement audit; and
  • Other related accounting duties as assigned from time to time.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 2 years’ experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role;
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles;
  • Advanced spreadsheet knowledge (MS Excel);
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing demands and shifting priorities;
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high-demand environment; and
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and email etiquette skills.

Preferred skills and experience

  • 2 years' or more experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role.

  • 2nd year student or higher enrolled in a designated accounting program; or
  • Completion or nearing completion of an accounting or bookkeeping diploma.
